Arkib Pusaka was founded in Kuala Lumpur after the families of two of our current team members spent more than a year locating the papers needed to manage an estate — not because the documents did not exist, but because nobody had ever gathered them in one place. One set of land documents was at a cousin's house in Seremban. A birth certificate turned out to have been issued in a slightly different name. An insurance policy had lapsed and no one was sure whether a later one existed.

What those families needed was not a solicitor — they had one — and not a valuer — they arranged their own. What they needed was someone to go through the papers methodically, make a clear list, and explain which office handled which document and how copies were obtained. That is what Arkib Pusaka now does.

We opened our reading room at Jalan Raja Chulan in early 2022, taking on clients through referral only for the first year. Word spread quietly among estate solicitors, professional executors, and families who had found the process difficult. We have worked with families whose records date back to the 1940s and with younger families setting up their first household file. The work is the same either way: careful, methodical, unhurried.

We do not hold ourselves out as advisers on inheritance, ownership, or entitlement. Every record we touch is returned to the family. Every decision about what to do with those records stays with the family. Our job is to make sure the papers are in order so that the conversations that need to happen can happen.
